Hello! My name is Coua Xiong. I was born in California and moved to Wisconsin during my middle school years. As a First-Generation college student, I didn't know anything about college, and I didn’t have the confidence to go to college right away. This remains my only regret in life. I had so many missed opportunities. But I am a huge believer that when one door closes, another door opens. Now, as a First-Year Admissions Counselor, I get to make sure I spread the word! I want to give you the knowledge and opportunities I missed.
Advice for a new student:
It’s okay to not know everything; ask questions! Don’t know where to start? Try asking, “What questions should I be asking right now?”
College Major/Minor:
I majored in Psychology with an Emphasis on Mental Health and Counseling.
Why did you choose your major?
I was always interested in studying the human mind. Plus, this just helps me understand people more.
What do you love most about UW-Stout?
There is so much that UW-Stout has to offer. For one, I love that UW-Stout is a polytechnic university. Not only is Stout amazing for its hands-on learning, but Stout is also a Laptop+ campus. You will receive a laptop with all the software you need for your major. Plus, you get a fun Stout backpack to carry it in!
My favorite thing to do in Menomonie is…
I love that Menomonie is a big supporter of small local businesses! It’s always fun to explore all the shops around town.
A random fact about me...
The Hmong culture is beautiful! I am so proud to say that I took part of Hmong dancing in my youth. I started dancing at a very young age and only stopped after graduating high school.
