UW-Stout Chancellor Bob Meyer will kick off the 2018 spring semester at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, when he addresses faculty and staff. Meyer will speak for about 20 minutes in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center.
The university is closed Monday, Jan. 15, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Classes for the semester begin Monday, Jan. 22.
Meyer will recap news and developments from the 2017 calendar year and look ahead to 2018. Topics will include:
- The need to increase faculty and staff salaries and what has been done to date
- An update on the university’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign, which will enter the public phase in the fall
- Launching of a new university website Tuesday, Jan. 23. Work on the website began about two years ago. The process includes the migration of about 10,000 pages from the old site to the new throughout 2018.
Meyer also will provide an update on the Memorial Student Center. A water pipe broke above the Terrace dining and lounge area on the second floor during the holidays. The Terrace will reopen when students return, Meyer said, thanking the many staff who oversaw repairs to the Terrace and other areas of the building.
Meyer’s address will be followed from 9 to 10 a.m. with You Said ... We Did. Presented by the Office of Planning, Assessment, Research and Quality, the program will explain initiatives UW-Stout has undertaken or is developing in response to employee suggestions during the fall Engagement Sessions.
