Dr. Welch Deal is an assistant professor of school counseling at UW Stout. Although she is new in her current role, Dr. Welch Deal has been teaching full time at Stout since 2005, primarily in the Psychology Department. Prior to 2005, Dr. Welch Deal was a High School Guidance Counselor. Dr. Welch Deal's research interests include trauma-informed care, culturally responsive practices, gender difference, and positive psychology.
   
In addition to her work at UW-Stout, Dr. Welch Deal is also a mental health consultant for Head Start CESA 11. In her role as a mental health consultant, Dr. Welch Deal supports teachers, staff, students, and families. She also provides regular trainings on topics including the impact of trauma and secondary trauma on behavior and development, care strategies for effective leaders, effective communication strategies, and optimism and well-being.
   
On a personal level, Dr. Welch Deal is passionate about the outdoors and enjoys biking, camping, fishing, and exploring with her husband, her three boys, and her dogs.
