Helping former foster YOU(th) move forward.

Investing in your future.

Fostering Success provides guidance and resources for youth who have been in foster care, homeless or orphaned and who have an interest in pursuing higher education. We also provide information for other campuses interested in developing their own version of Fostering Success.

Starting August 31st, the Fostering Success physical office will be open with staff rotating between being on campus and telecommuting. Visitors should check-in at 310 Bowman Hall front desk. In the interest of staff and student health and safety, primary service delivery will be a mixture of in-person and virtual for scheduled appointments. While walk-ins are welcome, students are encouraged to call ahead to schedule to ensure availability of staff, to determine if services can be completed remotely and to maintain low density in the office and promote social distancing.  Scheduling can be done by contacting Gail Mentzel at or Angie Ruppe at

Special note for off campus visitors and applicants: Before visiting campus we ask that you review the expectations in the UW-Stout visitors guide.

The FS Closet is stocked, but closed for walk-ins.  If you are a current participant in the program and are in need of supplies, please visit the FS Connect Page to request supplies.

Connecting Youth to Campus

We coordinate overnight experiences for youth (ages 13 - 18) to learn about what college is about, identify personal strengths, and what opportunities exist for youth interested in higher education. If you want to visit Stout, we'll help you set a up a tour!

Students Attending UW-Stout

We educate students coming to Stout about available grants and scholarships as well as provide supplemental advising about courses and resources. There are numerous leadership and involvement opportunities available on and off campus. We'll connect you with other students, organizations, or opportunities so you make the most of your college experience.
